Flossing Habits to Stay Away From

Posted .

Flossing is very important. In fact, it’s vital for a top-notch oral health and smile. However, even if you do floss at least once a day, an improper flossing routine will do more harm than good. So, it’s best to make sure you have the best flossing routine possible. To help you do so, our dentists are happy to mention some flossing habits to avoid. Those habits are:

-Forcing the floss into place: When you force the floss into place, it can ram into the gums. When this happens, the gums become irritated and they can even bleed. It’s very important to be gentle with the gums, so use a gentle sawing motion to put the floss into position.

-Using a flossing product that is hard to use: If you’re not able to easily maneuver the floss, there is a bigger chance you’ll force the floss into place and harm the oral tissues. So, make sure you use a product that you can use easily, like waxed floss, a flossing pick, a floss threader or a water flosser.

-Not flossing once a day: It’s extremely important to floss at least once a day. If you don’t, the plaque can grow on the teeth and gumline and promote major dental issues, like tooth decay and gum disease. So, make sure to floss daily.
