New Filling: How to Care for It

Posted .

You probably know that it’s vital for you to floss and brush if you want to protect your teeth. Conversely, you might know how important it is to have a cavity filled as soon as you can. If a cavity goes untreated, your decay will spread. This will eventually lead to infections and might lead to root canal therapy. In fact, did you know that there are quite a few steps you should take once your first cavity is placed?

One thing you should consider doing is avoiding extremely hot and cold foods temporarily. While your teeth are healing, it could be sensitive to hot and cold foods, which could be painful. Similarly, you should also be careful when you are chewing. You should also avoid eating anything while your mouth is numb and remember to not chew on anything hard with your newly filled tooth for a few days.

We also recommend contacting our dentist if you’re concerned about how your newly filled tooth is healing. For example, if your tooth is causing you pain, if you are struggling to bite down on the filled tooth, or if you notice any cracks on your tooth, please give us a call.
