Oral Health Care Highlights: Toothbrushing Techniques

Posted .

Your tooth brushing techniques play a key role in your oral health care. If you are not adequately brushing your teeth properly, or are using a tool that can effectively brush as intended, you will not be receiving the oral health care treatments you need. Due to the prevalence of plaque buildup and the need to clean all areas of your mouth, it is a good idea to make sure your toothbrush techniques are being done to the best of your abilities.

When brushing your teeth, try to brush for roughly two minutes each session, making sure to use soft, gentle strokes and try to keep your brush at a 45-degree angle, unless you’re brushing the fronts of your teeth, at which time you should hold your brush vertical. Don’t forget to brush your gums and your tongue as well to make sure that bacteria cannot remain in your mouth. Make sure your brush is not worn down or broken and be sure to replace it if it is.

Make sure to choose a toothbrush that can easily fit in your mouth and select one that features soft bristles. However, your teeth can be extra sensitive after meals, and abrasion can still occur, so use a different form of cleaning treatment at this time, such as mouthwash or sugarless gum. Also, be sure to brush your teeth and gums twice daily and don’t forget to floss every day too.
